Tottenham insider shares ‘big’ Conte claim amid ‘very telling’ player comments
Antonio Conte knows more about his Tottenham squad than some people realise after making some “very telling” comments.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
As quoted by the Daily Mail (25th November), Conte admitted he now understands the size of the job at hand in north London and insisted he is “not a magician”.
The quotes came after his side were handed a humiliating 2-1 defeat at the hands of Slovenian minnows NS Mura.
Wenham was happy to hear Conte telling it how it is and not making excuses for Spurs’ below-par players.
“They were some very, very telling quotes,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I quite like to hear that. He’s not going to make excuses for these players who aren’t up to it.
“He knows this squad. This is pretty much the same side that pushed his Chelsea team all the way in an FA Cup semi-final.
“He knows exactly what this team is about. There will have also been a fair amount of due diligence done by him in the summer when he was looking at taking the job.
“I was happy with the quotes, it was a big thing to say but it needed to be said.
“There are a few players who are just not performing to the best of their abilities for us.
“Hopefully we see some changes soon, the club has to listen to Conte.”
Tottenham are next in action against Brentford on Thursday night (2 December).
Their final Europa Conference League game is against Rennes on 9 December.
