Medical expert issue ‘huge’ Richarlison claim amid Tottenham latest

One of the “huge” upsides of Richarlison’s move to Tottenham is his stellar injury record.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

Spurs announced the signing of Richarlison, 25, last Friday (1 July) in a deal reported to be worth £60million.

The Brazilian forward gave his first inteview since his move from Everton to club media on Saturday (9 July)

The Brazilian only sustained two non-contact injuries during his four seasons at Goodison Park.

Dinnery explained why having such a robust player will be “huge” for Tottenham in 2022-23 and beyond.

“First and foremost, availability is often overlooked,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re the best player in the world, if you aren’t available then you’re just a very expensive paperweight. You can’t overstate how huge availability is.

Since his arrival in the Premier League, Richarlison has demonstrated himself to be a robust player.

“We could see a slight change in how he will be managed at Tottenham. At Watford, he was the first name on the team sheet. At Everton, in the absence of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, he was the main guy.

“He will now find himself in a squad where he isn’t top dog. He may have experienced that with the national team, but he’ll believes he should be in the starting XI every week.

“There may, however, be periods when he isn’t used as frequently. But the fact he is hardy and has proved himself over a number of seasons is great.

“Spurs are going to be fighting on a number of fronts next season and you need players with good availability.”
