Tottenham manager Antonio Conte could axe Ben Davies amid ‘big’ verdict – Hutton
Alan Hutton has claimed Clement Lenglet will “battle” with Ben Davies for a place in the Tottenham starting XI.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs right-back suspects Antonio Conte will want to get Lenglet, 27, into his starting XI.
Davies, 29, started for the Lilywhites in their game against Southampton on Saturday (6 August), while Lenglet was named on the bench.
Lenglet replaced Davies for the final five minutes of the 4-1 victory over the Saints.
Antonio Conte’s side signed the France international on a season-long loan from Barcelona.
According to The Athletic (3 August), the Spanish giants are said to be paying more than 50 per cent of the defender’s wages during his loan spell in London.
When asked if Lenglet is set to struggle to break into the Spurs side, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think he [Conte] will want to get Lenglet in the team.

“He’s brought him in from Barcelona, he wants to play football as well. I think he’s left sided so it might be a battle between him and the likes of Davies for that kind of left of a three and Dier is the commanding unit in there.
“I think as a manager, Antonio Conte wants these big name players playing at a high level. To compete against the top teams you need to have top players pushing each other. This is probably one of the first seasons Tottenham have had that strength and depth so I’m excited to see what they can do.“
