Tottenham may have found Lucas Moura replacement after £26m transfer news - pundit
Noel Whelan has claimed Lucas Moura’s imminent departure could open the door to a Tottenham return for Marcus Edwards.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 23-year-old looked “so sharp” against his old side in Portugal.
Edwards starred as Sporting CP recorded a 2-0 win over Tottenham in the Champions League on Tuesday (13 September), and went close to scoring a goal of the season contender.
As per The Telegraph (14 September), Spurs will bank £26million if any club activates his £52million release clause.
Football Insider revealed (4 September) that Lucas Moura is keen to run down his Tottenham contract after seeing deadline day bids from Leicester and Newcastle rejected.
The Brazil international is out of contract at the end of the season and can discuss a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from 1 January.

When asked if Edwards could return to the club, Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “This is something that maybe hearts will want more than heads at Tottenham.
“It’s very difficult to move to another country to play your football. The game over there is different.
“Lucas Moura, a very talented player, could be leaving. That could leave a gaping hole for someone like Edwards to come in and have another chance.
“You never say never in football, especially after he puts in a performance like that – he looked so sharp.
“But sometimes it’s hard to go back. Only Daniel Levy and Conte will know whether it is possible.”
Tottenham have a 50% sell-on clause inserted in Edwards’ Sporting contract after he came through the ranks at the club.
He has notched three goals and three assists in eight outings so far this term.
