Expert: Tottenham to use new Premier League TV rules to hoodwink rivals

Tottenham may use smoke and mirrors to control what the media sees at their training ground under proposed new Premier League directives.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

The Daily Mail reported last Sunday (29 May) that the top flight could be set to hand broadcasters even greater access to clubs.

It is understood that Spurs may soon be contractually obliged to let TV cameras into their training base, or even the dressing room on matchdays.

But Dinnery claims that the Londoners could use the new access measures to stage manage the information that comes out of the club and hoodwink their rivals.

“Ultimately, we are only going to be privy to what they want you to see and hear,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“Because there is no requirement for full disclosure, there are always going to be questions when it comes to availability.

“In fact, there is a possibility that it might things a bit hazier, a bit worse.

“In the last 12 to 18 months, the likes of Spurs have pushed their own training ground images. You can get one player who isn’t with the group. It might be picked up on and all of a sudden it’s all over social media.

“But what I try to tell people is that it is, literally, just a snapshot. The player may be training away from the main group or be in a recovery session.

“So there is a possibility that it will raise more questions than it answers.”

Antonio Conte may also be required to be interviewed at half-time in future Premier League fixtures.

The new proposals are set to be debated over the summer, and it claimed that there is broad support within the top flight.
