Tottenham monitoring 18-year-old sensation from top-flight club – report

By Derek Smithson

Tottenham are monitoring goalkeeper Pontus Dahlberg from Swedish top-flight club IFK Gothenberg, according to a report.

Swedish publication Fotboll Direkt claim that Spurs are eyeing the highly rated 18-year-old after his impressive performances last season.

It is understood that the shot stopper is being scouted by a number of other European sides.

The report details that representatives from Spurs, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Hamburg, Bayer Leverkusen, FC Schalke and FC Copenhagen have scouted the teenager.

Dahlberg has only recently made his breakthrough into the first team at IFK Gothenberg last season, but has now cemented his position as the number one option.

He has made 15 senior appearances for their side and kept three clean sheets in return.

The goalkeeper has represented Sweden right up the Under-21s age bracket and was in the squad at the European Championships this summer.

Dahlberg is being tipped to become a future star in his homeland and Spurs are eyeing talented youngster.

Football Insider verdict:

Dahlberg is almost certainly going to have to move away from Sweden if he is going to become a top player and the amount of interest from European clubs suggests that is imminent. The 18-year-old has already secured a first-team spot at his club and may be best served developing with them for another season. Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has shown his willingness to promote youth and should consider a move for Dahlberg if he believes he has the potential. The north London club do already have Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm as senior options, but it’s always good to be preparing for the future. They would certainly have to loan out the goalkeeper if he did join Spurs and it should be a few more years before he makes a major impact.
