Talks next month: Tottenham to negotiate attacking midfielder transfer – L’Equipe
By Russell Edge
Tottenham will meet with the management of midfielder Moussa Sissoko for crunch talks, according to a report.
French sports news outlet L’Equipe report that the North London side are set to meet with the French international’s representatives next month for showdown discussions about his future.
The midfielder, who can operate through the middle or on either wing, was signed by Tottenham from Newcastle in a deadline day deal worth £30million last summer.
L’Equipe claim talks will centre around the possibility of Sissoko leaving White Hart Lane amid the possibility of a £17million exit in the coming months.
He has failed to live up to his price tag and with only six starts in a total of 17 Premier League appearances this season for Tottenham, it seems Mauricio Pochettino is ready to let the 27-year-old depart.
After being vocal over his desire to play Champions League football, he failed to prove himself on Europe’s biggest stage with just one start; a 1-0 home defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.
Sissoko has also fallen out of choice with France boss Didier Deschamps who, despite showing favour to Sissoko in the past, has left him out of his latest national squad for their games against Luxembourg and Spain.
It seems this has prompted talks to take place between the club and the players representatives, with both parties seemingly keen to end Sissoko’s time at White Hart Lane sooner than expected.
Football Insider verdict:
Sissoko to Tottenham is a transfer which hasn’t worked out for any of the parties involved – apart from Newcastle United. The Magpies will be laughing all the way to the bank with £30m in their back pocket, while Spurs seem to be willing to take a significant loss to see Sissoko leave. At 27, Sissoko must be playing regularly to be in contention for a place in the France squad, but his time at White Hart Lane won’t have helped his reputation. It’s tough to see any English clubs taking him on, even for the cut-price deal Tottenham are offering, and it is expected that he’ll move back to France to reignite his career.
In other Tottenham transfer news, the club are ready to move for this German midfielder, ahead of rivals Arsenal.
