Tottenham news: Antonio Conte slammed for causing ‘turmoil’ as ‘threats’ made – pundit

Noel Whelan has blasted Antonio Conte for causing “turmoil” at Tottenham with his “idle threats”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker insisted the 56-year-old should keep his “grievances” behind closed doors in talks with the board.

As quoted by the Times on Wednesday (16 March), Conte claimed he would “stop” if the club do not match his “vision” moving forward.

It is the second time the Italian has suggested he could leave Spurs in the space of a month.

Whelan insisted the 52-year-old is causing unnecessary drama with his comments.

“It’s got to be behind closed doors,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“I don’t think there’s any reason otherwise. If you’ve got a grievance, then you speak to Daniel Levy and the owners of Tottenham Hotspur.

“If you’re not happy with something that you may have been promised, that discussion goes towards you and the owners of Tottenham Hotspur.

“It’s got nothing to do with the media. The Tottenham fans and players don’t need to be hearing this. It just sends out more turmoil that they don’t need to be listening to right now.

“They need to be concentrating and trying to get that fourth spot for the Champions League and getting themselves back into Europe.

“It seems very petty, very unprofessional from a manager that’s managed at the very top level to go about his business and dish it out for everyone to know what he’s thinking and talking about idle threats.

“You’re getting paid by a football club you agreed to join. You agreed to join for these purposes, knowing what you may have. You’ve gone out and got a couple of players in the January window. They are your players.

“At the same time, you’ve got to manage. You’ve got to show how good you are as a manager. They’ve got a good squad, there’s no doubt about that.

“There’s no reason if you’re not winning games and you’re inconsistent. It’s frustrating, but it’s your job to make them more consistent than they have been.”
