Tottenham news: ‘Desperate’ Harry Kane could now push for exit after Conte update

Harry Kane will be “desperate” to follow Antonio Conte out the door at Tottenham if the Italian leaves his post, according to Danny Mills.

The former England defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 28-year-old’s future will “come down to money”.

Conte cast major doubt on his Tottenham future after the London side fell to a 1-0 away defeat at Burnley on Wednesday (23 February).

As quoted by the BBC post-match, the former Chelsea boss insisted he needs to speak to the club but is “ready to go” if necessary – adding that he is “really frustrated” with the situation.

Kane, who is contracted until 2024, branded Conte “one of the best managers in the world” in an interview with Sky Sports in January.

Mills criticised the England captain’s performance at Turf Moor.

“He did okay on Wednesday, but he wasn’t quite at the same level as against Man City,” he told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“He didn’t look too much of a threat, and he wasn’t up against world-class defenders. The team needed to help him out and play a bit better as well, but even still – you expect a lot more from him.

“It’s going to come down to money with his future. But if Conte leaves, that’s it – he’ll be desperate to leave.

“He probably thought Conte was going to bring a massive improvement, but it hasn’t quite happened. The manager is starting to come out and say ‘I can’t do any more’.

“You just start to think – is it the manager that’s the problem? Or is it the players?”

Kane has scored seven goals in the Premier League this term.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein (21 February), Tottenham are not planning on opening talks over a new deal – with the ball reportedly in the striker’s court.
