Tottenham news: Eric Dier ‘gets laughed at so often’ but everyone is so wrong about transformed star – insider
None of the three Tottenham central defenders who started against Man City were at fault for the goals they conceded.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Tottenham beat Man City 3-2 on Saturday (19 February) to significantly boost their top-four chances.
Dier returned to the side in place of Davinson Sanchez with eyebrows raised over Ben Davies selection alongside Cristian Romero.
However, Wenham was left impressed with all three of Spurs’ central defenders and claims the two goals conceded were not their fault.
“I thought Davies was excellent, he’s been under fire in recent weeks,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“As soon as Eric Dier returned Davies looked back to the form he was showing earlier this season. We don’t win that game without him [Dier].
“He gets laughed at so often by other fans but he made the difference again.
“To have Dier and Romero in there was incredible. That clearance at the end from Romero was absolutely superb.
“It would have been a shame if the game was marked by him giving away a last-minute penalty.
“He can’t make himself vanish, I don’t blame him at all for that. It was just unfortunate.
“All three of those players did really well against a brilliant Man City team, you can’t really blame them for the two goals in my opinion.”

Dier had missed Tottenham’s two previous Premier League games through injury.
Romero continued his return after missing almost three months through a knock he sustained on international duty.
