Tottenham news: Ex-Fifa official’s verdict on Hugo Lloris landing extended ban – ‘He wiped him out’
Hugo Lloris was guilty of a “definite foul” as Tottenham were held to a 0-0 draw with Brentford on Saturday (23 April), according to Keith Hackett.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee insisted Lloris’ challenge on Ivan Toney in the second half should have been punished.
As shown on the BBC’s Match of the Day programme, the 35-year-old stormed out of his penalty area and took out Toney before clearing the ball.

If Toney had won the ball cleanly and got passed Lloris both Eric Dier and Ben Davies were covering.
Therefore Hackett believes the goalkeeper should not have been sent off as he was not denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.
A red card would have seen him serve a three-match ban meaning he would have missed games with Leicester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.
He said after analysing the footage with Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “He wipes him out.
“It’s a definite foul, there’s no question that it is a foul. What I’m looking for is, is it more?
“In all honestly, the goalkeeper should have received a yellow card but I’m not giving a red card, just a yellow.
“There are covering defenders, maybe even two covering defenders.
“Goalkeepers shouldn’t get away with that, it’s a foul and it’s just a poor judgement by the referee.”

Lloris has started all 33 of Spurs’ Premier League games this season and has kept 13 clean sheets in the process.
The France captain has not missed a league game since top-flight football resumed after the coronavirus pandemic in June 2020.
