Tottenham news: Ex-Premier League referee lambasts ‘out of order’ Harry Kane as controversial image emerges

Tottenham star Harry Kane is “out of order” for wearing his wedding ring taped up during England’s 3-0 win over Senegal on Sunday (4 December), according to Keith Hackett.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee claimed Kane had “transgressed the law” and the officials had failed to do their job.

The England captain, 30, scored his first goal of the tournament in his side’s round of 16 victory that set up a quarter-final with France.

He clearly had a ring on his left ring finger taped up before taking the tape off to reveal his wedding ring during his post-match press duties.

“No jewellery is allowed and that’s nose studs, ear studs or rings,” Hackett told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“You can’t even have it taped over, it’s not allowed. The laws of the game are very clear, all jewellery has to be removed.

“It’s something that has to be raised. He’s out of order. He’s transgressing the law and the referees are not doing their job.

“I know it sounds picky but that’s the law and the law has to be enforced. They used to be quite keen on it.

“It’s a little bit like raising your shirt and having any sort of message on an undergarment. Raising the shirt is a yellow card in itself and so is showing a political message, that’s why it was brought in.”
