Tottenham news: Expert issues emphatic Harry Kane injury claim after twist – ‘no way’
Noel Whelan has claimed there is “absolutely no way” Tottenham striker Harry Kane will be rested for England’s clash with the USA if he is passed fit to play.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 29-year-old could sit out next week’s clash with Wales (29 November) instead.
As per The Athletic‘s David Ornstein (22 November), Kane will have a scan on his ankle ahead of England’s Group B clash against the United States on Friday (25 November).
The Three Lions captain was brought down by Iran defender Morteza Pouraliganji minutes into the second half, but was not withdrawn with the injury until the 75th minute.
Kane provided two assists as England ran out 6-2 winners to take control of Group B ahead of games against the USA and Wales.
Tottenham boss Antonio Conte revealed Kane was “very, very tired” earlier this month (9 November) and had to sit out a training session in order to “recover energy” before the League Cup loss against Nottingham Forest.
When asked if Kane could do with a rest even if his scan comes back all-clear, Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “No, there’s absolutely no way.
“I think because of the USA’s draw with Wales, this game becomes even more important for England in terms of progression.
“Kane is an influential figure, we saw that against Iran.
“He will want to play and get on the scoresheet. This is the game that will send England through.
“Southgate can give others game time against Wales, when we know we are through to the knockout stages.

“He won’t be rested for the USA game if he gets the all-clear, absolutely not.
“Southgate won’t want to tinker with the side this early.”
