Tottenham news: Expert issues Son Heung-min verdict after ‘devastating’ Conte claim

Paul Robinson has launched a staunch defence of Son Heung-min amid question marks over the Tottenham winger’s form.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-White Hart Lane number one said the 29-year-old is the second name on the team sheet for Antonio Conte behind Harry Kane.

Son produced an uncharacteristically poor performance in a 3-2 loss at Man United on Saturday.

As quoted by Football.London (12 March), Conte poured cold water on suggestions the forward was low on confidence.

Conte pointed to Son’s “devastating” display against Everton earlier this month as proof.

When asked for his thoughts on Son’s form in light of his performance at Old Trafford, Robinson told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs:

“Sonny was quiet but let’s not forget that two weeks ago we were signing his praise after him and Kane broke the record for most combined goals.

“He is a top-class player who plays week in, week out. He was quieter than you would expect at the weekend but there is no long-term problem there. His energy, running and fitness is still there.

“You always know you are going to get a seven out of 10 from him. If every player at Tottenham gave that they would be much higher in the league.

“Listen, it wasn’t his best game but he is the second name on the team sheet. I would never question him.”
