Tottenham news: Expert lambasts ‘disrespectful’ Antonio Conte after ‘unprofessional’ update

Noel Whelan has insisted it is “disrespectful and unprofessional” for Tottenham boss Antonio Conte to contact Paris Saint-Germain with their Champions League qualification hanging in the balance.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, urged the 52-year-old to focus on the job at hand in north London.

According to The Times (24 April), Conte is interested in replacing Mauricio Pochettino at the Parc des Princes.

As per La Parisien (24 April), the former Spurs boss is on the brink of losing his job despite sealing the Ligue 1 title.

The report claims Conte has “offered himself” to the French giants despite having one year remaining on his Tottenham deal.

Whelan insisted no discussions should be taking place until the season’s end.

“It would be a huge blow for Tottenham to lose Conte,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“No one likes to hear that kind of thing from players or managers, because he very much still has a job to do at Tottenham.

“If that’s correct, and he’s offered himself to another club – it’s a bit disrespectful and certainly very unprofessional.

“He’s still trying to get into the Champions League with Tottenham. He’s got to be focusing on that.

“No discussions should be taking place until the end of the season. If he’s not happy with the transfer budget or the players he’s got, then fine – but do the decent thing and see it out until the end.”
