Tottenham news: McAvennie issues emphatic Harry Kane verdict after reveal
Frank McAvennie has suggested Tottenham Harry Kane will break Alan Shearer’s record of all-time Premier League goals.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said the England captain is the current player most likely to surpass the 260 goals scored by Shearer.
As revealed by OptaJoe, via The Athletic (14 August), Kane, 29, has equalled Sergio Aguero’s record of most Premier League goals scored for a single club.
Kane scored in Spurs’ 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Sunday (14 August) to rescue a point for his side.
Jamie Vardy and Mohamed Salah are the closest current players to Kane.
When asked if Salah could rival Kane’s record if he stays at Liverpool for the rest of his career, McAvennie told Football Insider: “He could very easily do that if Harry Kane retired tomorrow.
“But Kane is going to keep going and scoring goals, for the foreseeable future anyway. He won’t score as many as what he’s been scoring but he’s going to score.

“Salah will break the record at Liverpool. Could he beat Kane? No. Kane will beat the record, he’s matched it now so he will definitely beat the record.
“Kane is going to keep scoring goals so Salah will have to score a lot more, maybe 15 a year more than him to get even close to him so that’s not going to happen any time soon.“
