Tottenham news: Medical Insider issues Harry Kane ‘muscle injury’ claim

There should be no “major” worries about the fitness of Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

Kane has started all three of England’s group games but was taken off with more than half an hour to go of their 3-0 win over Wales on Tuesday (29 November).

As quoted by BBC Sport ahead of the game, the 29-year-old claimed there was a lot of “hype” around his injury problems but insisted he felt “physically good”.

“Look, ultimately, nobody is going to know Harry Kane better than himself and the members of the England backroom team who are working with him on a day-to-day basis,” Dinnery told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“Yes, there’s lots of hype, lots of speculation and that’s what it is. It’s hyperbole about what’s going on behind the scenes without actually knowing and having access to all the data.

“These players are managed and their load is being monitored. Will players be risked? On occasions on the biggest stage in world football, of course they will.

“There’s a balance between knowing when to push a player and when to hold them back. It’s a tournament where even a short-term problem could rule him out for the remainder.

“The injury itself was a mid-foot related problem, it wasn’t a hamstring injury or a muscle injury.

“Yes, it was painful at the time, the MRI scan cleared him of anything serious.

“I think it’s a bit of a storm in a teacup this one. It’s nothing major to worry about.

“He’s the captain of his country. He’s going to want to go out there and lead the Three Lions in every single game. That’s up to him, Gareth Southgate and the backroom staff to make the decision on what his involvement looks like on a game-by-game basis.”

In other news, a young Tottenham attacker has arrived at his new club after being told to leave.
