Tottenham news: Pundit issues verdict on Harry Kane sealing big-money transfer after talks green light

Kevin Campbell has claimed Harry Kane has “committed to Tottenham and Antonio Conte” as he prepares to open talks about a contract renewal.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 28-year-old will not push for the inclusion of a release clause in any potential deal.

According to the London Evening Standard (26 May), Kane is open to signing a new contract with the club – and willing to open talks when he returns for pre-season ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

Tottenham

The Daily Mail claim (8 June) the England captain is “optimistic” about Tottenham’s chances of success under Antonio Conte and could be persuaded to end his playing career at the club.

Kane’s current deal is set to expire in June 2024.

He notched 17 goals and nine assists in 37 Premier League appearances in the 2021-22 season and was nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award.

Campbell suggested Kane is ready to “hunker down” at Tottenham.

He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “Harry Kane is 29.

“If he’s going to sign a new contract, I can’t see him pushing for a release clause or anything like that.

“If he renews then he is hunkering down at Tottenham. Say he signs for another four years. He will be 33 when that ends, leaving you with only one more big contract.

“I just can’t see it. I think he’s committing to Spurs and Antonio Conte if he chooses to sign on.”

Kane was linked with a move to Man City during the summer of 2021 but a mega-money switch failed to materialise.

Tottenham will play Champions League football again next season after sealing a top-four finish in the 2021-22 campaign.
