‘Tottenham now face serious takeover obstacle’ as after deal is done

Crystal Palace part-owner David Blitzer has been linked with a potential minority investment in Tottenham – who have been on the market for some time.

Blitzer has just approved the sale of his stake in MLS and NWSL sides Real Salt Lake City and Utah Saints for a combined £450million – fuelling speculation about a potential play for investment at Spurs.

He owns an 18% stake in Crystal Palace as part of a sports investment portfolio believed to be worth around £3billion.

Spurs have also been linked with investment from the Qatari state and former Newcastle United director Amanda Staveley.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed Blitzer would face “serious obstacles” to a deal at Spurs.

Blitzer and Josh Harris own a minority stake at Crystal Palace alongside John Textor and Steve Parish.

Qatar and Staveley are top options for Tottenham investment, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed new money from Qatar or Staveley remain the top options for Spurs as they chase new investment.

It was widely reported last year that chairman Daniel Levy wants to sell a stake in the north London giants – which would value the club at a total of £3.75billion.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “David Blitzer has the money to take a minority Tottenham stake, after selling his stakes in the US clubs.

“However, he has a share in Crystal Palace. He would have to divest himself of that.

“John Textor is also there and he wants to sell his shares – it’s all complicated at Palace.

“Until that is sorted out, Blitzer cannot move forward with Spurs – you can’t have shares in two Premier League clubs.

“I think he would be welcome at Spurs, there may be a deal to be done – but there are some serious obstacles.

“I still think Qatar or Amanda Staveley’s group may be the ones to do a deal because of the serious issues Blitzer has.”

The 27-year-old, currently on loan with Aston Villa, is admired at Spurs – who have long been interested in securing his signature.
