Tottenham offer new two-year contract to emerging midfielder

Tottenham have reportedly moved to tie down one of their brightest young talents to a new contract following some impressive progression this season.

Tottenham have aimed to promote youth players to their first-team in recent years following increased investment in their academy set-up.

They have struggled to do so, however, especially compared to their arch-rivals Arsenal who have young stars like Max Dowman and Ethan Nwaneri making waves in their first-team.

Thomas Frank has put some trust in the academy since his arrival, with Luca Williams-Barnett becoming the youngest player ever to appear for the club in the League Cup in September, while Callum Olusesi, Junai Byfield and Malachi Hardy have been on the bench for Champions League games.

Another youngster has been impressing in their academy ranks and soon looks set to extend his stay at Spurs following a new development.

Tottenham offer Toju Wellspring a two-year scholarship contract

Tottenham insider Lilywhite Rose has reported, via Instagram, that they have been told that young midfielder Toju Wellspring has been offered a two-year scholarship to join the club’s Under-18 side from next season.

The 15-year-old has already featured in five U18 Premier League games so far this term, scoring against Birmingham City, while he has also been involved in their squad for the UEFA Youth League.

Wellspring is clearly highly rated among those at Tottenham and could well be on his way to becoming a first-team player in the near future if he continues his impressive development.

Tottenham targeting new January signings despite Thomas Frank uncertainty

Tottenham will want to promote their youth players and show them that there is a clear pathway to the first team, but their current focus must undoubtedly be on achieving short-term success.

Frank has been unable to build on their Europa League win under Ange Postecoglou so far, with questions from fans and neutrals alike over whether he is the right man to lead the club forward.

Even though they sit 11th in the Premier League and have one won of their last eight games, Tottenham are set to back Frank in January as they have the capacity to spend big despite splashing out over £180million on new additions in the summer.

Football Insider recently revealed that Frank is under “no immediate pressure” at Spurs as the board insists he can turn their poor form around, but they could face a conundrum in the new year if their bad performances continue.
