Kieran Maguire: £300m deal on the cards after Tottenham-QSI talks – ‘for the transfer budget’
Qatar Sports Investments could pay up to £300million for a 10-15 per cent stake in Tottenham – and that cash could potentially be funnelled back into the club’s budget.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the possibility of QSI buying a stake in the North Londoners.
CBS reported earlier this month that (January 8) that QSI, who also own Paris Saint-Germain, want to minority-invest in a Premier League club this year.

It is claimed that Spurs chairman and co-owner Daniel Levy met with QSI chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi in London for exploratory talks about a potential deal.
Maguire assessed the pros and cons of such a deal for both the buying and selling parties, claiming that a £300m share issue could lead to a swell in the club’s transfer and infrastructure budgets.
“QSI have increased the profile of Qatar with the World Cup,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“They do appear to be interested in either a minority purchase or a takeover of a club. There are both good and bad points with regard to potential investment in Spurs.
“If they did buy into the club, it would have to be a minority stake. Otherwise, there would be problems from Uefa’s point of view because you can’t have two or more clubs in the same competition.
“However, clubs under the Red Bull umbrella have somehow managed to persuade Uefa that they are not connected to each other.
“In terms of the position of Lewis and Levy, if they sold 10 to 15 per cent of Spurs, they would probably be looking at £300m.

“That clearly could be used for their personal benefit or be put back into the club. That depends on the nature of the investment.
“If Spurs issue the shares, that money could go to repaying some of their debt or increasing their infrastructure spend. Of course, some might end up for transfer budget as well.“
