Tottenham player ratings v Barnsley: Youngster fails to live up to hype

COMMENT By Russell Edge

Tottenham were made to work hard for their 1-0 League Cup victory over Barnsley with Dele Alli’s strike the only thing to separate the two sides.

Following Saturday’s frustrating 0-0 draw with Swansea in the league, Spurs continued to demonstrate a lack of cutting edge in the final third, despite Mauricio Pochettino making six changes to his side, including handing a first start to Fernando Llorente.

However, despite the target man’s presence up front, the performance was still lacklustre and it was Alli’s sheer determination to slot home from Kieran Trippier’s corner in the second half which settled the tie.

The win means that the North London side have seen themselves into the fourth round of the League Cup, and they will found out their next opponents when the draw takes place at the conclusion of Manchester United’s clash with Burton Albion on Wednesday.

So, how did the Tottenham players rate on Tuesday evening? Here Football Insider rates each player, including a debutant who failed to live up to his pre-match hype.
