There can be no tougher task in world football right now than being asked to replace Harry Kane in attack but that is exactly where Son found himself on Saturday.
He is a different sort of attacker to the English forward but he could not use that to his advantage against United.
He ran and ran, demonstrating incredible enthusiasm and dedication to the cause but he just did not offer a focal point for their attack – something which Spurs desperately needed if they were to find a way past David De Gea.
Spurs will be hoping Kane returns sooner rather than later, as Son proved why he is more effectual elsewhere.
