Tottenham player ratings v Real Madrid: Regular starter completely invisible – must be questioned

COMMENT By Russell Edge

Tottenham will travel back to England from Spain with a point after they frustrated the current holders Real Madrid in their Champions League clash on Tuesday.

Raphael Varane turned the ball into his own net while under heavy pressure from Harry Kane to give Spurs a first half lead in the north London club’s first visit to the Bernabeu since a 4-0 thrashing back in 2011.

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side were unable to hold out until half time as Cristiano Ronaldo confidently converted a penalty after a foul from Serge Aurier on Toni Kroos just four minutes before the break.

However, despite having the lion’s share of the possession, Real Madrid were unable to break down Tottenham, who have goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to thank after he pulled off some impressive saves to deny the Real Madrid attack.

Likewise the Spanish giants had Keylor Navas, returning from an injury suffered on international duty, to thank for keeping them in the match, as he denied red hot striker Harry Kane on more than one occasion.

So how did Spurs’ players get on on Tuesday night?

Here, Football Insider has analysed and rated each of them, including one man who will be lucky to find himself near the starting XI any time soon.
