Tottenham resolve to be tested by PL rival swoop for 26-year-old – report
By Dominic Toner
Manchester City could make a move for Tottenham defender Kyle Walker, according to a report.
The Telegraph claim that Pep Guardiola is set to undergo a busy summer of transfers at the Etihad Stadium and right-back Bacary Sagna is set to leave, with West Ham interested in a move.
The report details that Man City may “test Tottenham’s resolve” to keep their right-back Walker as they look to bolster the options in their squad.
Walker has been a crucial part of the Spurs side this season and helped them reach second in the Premier League table.
The 26-year-old is the first-choice option at right-back for Mauricio Pochettino and has missed just one league match this season, which was against Watford and caused through suspension.
The England international has been a part of the best defence in the division, with just 16 goals conceded in 24 league games.
Meanwhile, he has also shown his attacking talents this season and has chipped in with six assists.
Football Insider verdict:
Spurs should ignore any interest from Man City in their full-back Walker, who has been a vital part of the team’s success this season. The right-back provides great energy down the flank and is arguably the best in the league in his position. Pochettino’s side must try and avoid selling to their Premier League rivals if they want to compete for the title each season. Walker is currently in the peak of his career and is a part of a strong English contingent at White Hart Lane. He should continue to play his football at the north London club and help them claim a first ever Premier League title. Walker’s head could be turned by the chance to work with one of the best in Guardiola, but Spurs already have a top manager themselves in Pochettino.
