Finance guru salutes ‘brilliant’ Tottenham move as Tumi deal complete
Tottenham have handled the commercial side of their pre-season tour of South Korea “brilliantly”.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Spurs’ latest commercial deal in the region.
The Londoners will soon embark on a week-long tour of South Korea, with exhibition matches against a K League XI and Sevilla pencilled in for next Wednesday (13 July) and Saturday (16 July) respectively.
Spurs announced last Friday (1 July) that they had agreed a deal with Tumi to be the tour’s official sponsor.
Spurs forward and South Korean superstar Son Heung-min, 29, already has a pre-existing relationship with the luggage company as a brand ambassador.
Plumley saluted Tottenham for bringing their commercial strategy together ahead of the trip to south-east Asia.
“This is all about joining up the dots,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“This strategy is mutually beneficial for all parties. The reason for the sponsorship is the tour, which fits in with the association with Son. He is one of their best and most marketable players, especially in that region.
“Also, the luggage brand are linked with Son himself. So, it’s a case of every party linking together. It’s brilliant for creating that synergy.“

Spurs will take on Rangers in Glasgow and Sevilla in Israel in their final two pre-season games after the tour of South Korea.
They then get their 2022-23 campaign underway against Southampton on 6 August.
