Kieran Maguire salutes Tottenham after ‘intriguing’ Harry Kane update from America

Tottenham have been smart to capitalise on the American “intrigue” in the Premier League by sending Harry Kane on of the country’s biggest talk shows.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the England skipper’s appearances on the Tonight Show.

The 28-year-old discussed his goal record, the NFL, and his relationship with Tom Brady in an interview with Jimmy Fallon last Friday (27 May).

Spurs host two NFL games per year at their 63,000-seater stadium and list dozens of official US-based supporters clubs on their website.

The Premier League’s TV deal in America meanwhile is worth over £330million per season.

Maguire claims that Spurs have shown shrewd commercial judgement by dispatching their talisman to the States to make the most of the interest.

“There has been an uptick in American interest in the Premier League,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“There has been the success of Ted Lasso, and I think it makes a lot of sense to leverage on that.

“He’s the England captain. I think that ties in with the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. There’s an affection and an intrigue about this country. They are using that to their advantage, I think.”

Spurs will have greater exposure to the international market in 2022-23 after they qualified for the Champions League in 2021-22.

They receive around £40m per year from their contract with the NFL.
