Tottenham set for defensive overhaul after £100m+ confirmed news – pundit
Tottenham only need “three or four” new players to start properly challenging for trophies, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Spurs need to strengthen across their backline this summer as their front three are “frightening”.
The club announced on Tuesday (24 May) that owners ENIC had injected £150million into the club via a share issue.
Alasdair Gold of football.london reported the same day that the majority of the £150million will be used to help Antonio Conte in the transfer market.
As quoted by ESPN after his side’s 5-0 win over Norwich City on Sunday (22 May), Conte suggested his Spurs future hinges on being backed this summer.
Asked whether he thinks significant investment means Tottenham can challenge for trophies, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Yes, I really do.
“Spurs are not far off themselves.
“Maybe in centre-midfield and across the defence, a right-back, left-back and another centre-half is what they need. It’s more the defence that needs tightening up.
“The attack is frightening. Maybe one more winger who can challenge Kulusevski for his position.
“But three or four more signings for Spurs and they will be right up there for sure.”

While Spurs finished fourth and qualified for the Champions League they failed in the cup competitions this season.
They were beaten by Chelsea in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup and only progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup.
In other news, Tottenham have made a 23-year-old their number one target while stars based in Germany and Spain are also wanted.
