Tottenham set for FA ‘battle’ after ‘over-using’ their players – Kieran Maguire
Premier League clubs such as Tottenham could be in a “battle” against the FA after they banned friendly matches from taking place after the end of the season.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that top-flight clubs must stop using players as “cash cows” in their summer plans.
Tottenham are set to play a friendly match against Newcastle United in Australia just three days after the end of the Premier League season.
The FA have since taken action to ban friendly matches from taking place so soon after the end of the season.
Concerns of player welfare have been raised with players set to make a 21,000-mile round trip just days after the end of the Premier League campaign.
Tottenham could be in ‘battle’ against FA over friendlies
Maguire believes there could now be a “battle” between the FA and clubs looking to capitalise on their summer break.
“We’ve seen Spurs and Newcastle hastily arrange a friendly match in Australia after the end of the season,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“It does look as if there will now be a battle between clubs and the Football Association.
“We also have to take into consideration player welfare.

“There are far too many owners that just see football players as cash cows to be milked and milked as often as they can.
“And it’s good to see the FA standing up for the rights of players who otherwise are being overused.“
