Tottenham ready to allow 24-year-old leave for £20m this summer – report
By Matt Bullin
Tottenham have slapped a £20million price tag on Kevin Wimmer as they prepare to sell him this summer, according to a report.
A Sun report claims Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is happy for the 24-year-old defender to leave, but he is yet to receive any firm offers for him.
It is said chairman Daniel Levy wants to offload some dead-weight from the squad before investing in new players ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.
Wimmer arrived at White Hart Lane in the summer of 2015 in a £5million switch from German outfit FC Koln, but he has failed to make an impact in North London.
The 24-year-old centre-back has featured just 31 times for Tottenham since his move as Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Eric Dier have all been preferred in the centre of defence.
He was used sparingly by Pochettino last term, and he made only 10 appearances in all competitions.
Football Insider verdict
Tottenham simply do not need another centre-back and it is not really surprising that Levy and Pochettino feel he is surplus to requirements. However, Wimmer’s price tag may come as a surprise to many, because of his failure to make an impact in North London. But he is still highly-rated in Germany from his time at Koln and he is only 24. There is currently a shortage of top-class centre-backs around the world and despite his hefty asking fee, clubs around Europe and maybe even in the Premier League will have been alerted to the Austrian’s availability.
In other Tottenham transfer news, Pochettino has placed a huge asking fee on this 23-year-old ace.
