Tottenham sponsors pulling out amid ‘toxic’ environment, Daniel Levy role revealed
Tottenham will find it tough attracting new sponsors to the club amid their problems on and off the pitch.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who states that Spurs are on a “downward spiral.”
Daniel Levy’s departure as executive chairman in September led to changes at the top of Spurs, with Vinai Venkatesham taking control of the club day-to-day.
Sporting director Fabio Paratici left Spurs after the January transfer window, with the club hovering above the relegation zone and in danger of Premier League relegation for the first time in their history.
Tottenham could lose out on sponsorship deals
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Spurs will miss Levy’s negotiating skills in agreeing future deals.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness states there are currently “more attractive” opportunities for sponsors in the Premier League than Spurs.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well, Daniel was always the master in terms of striking great commercial deals. He was always known as one of the best negotiators.
“I’ve dealt with him myself, and I’ve got full respect for his skills. He was very good. We’ve worked together on different player deals, and I’ve seen him in action.
“But look, I think sponsors are looking at the new stadium. Well, it’s a fantastic facility. It’s got a toxic environment right now. It really is. I mean the club’s in a downward spiral, there’s this leadership vacuum.
“They haven’t quite splashed in the transfer market to bring in marquee players to replace the Son’s and the Harry Kane’s. So really, if you’re a sponsor and the Spurs want top, which they did want, they wanted top dollar for their sponsorship. You’ve got to think, well, hang on, there are other options around right now. And there are other options in the Premier League right now that are probably more attractive.”

Tottenham in James Trafford pursuit
Spurs have joined the race to sign Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford, with the 23-year-old unhappy with not being first choice at the Etihad.
With Guglielmo Vicario potentially returning to Italy, Spurs want to strengthen the goalkeeping position in the summer, with Crystal Palace‘s Dean Henderson also mentioned as an option.
Trafford is wanted by a number of Premier League clubs, and Spurs would face stiff competition to sign the England international.
