Medical expert names Rodrigo Bentancur comeback date after Tottenham ‘blow’

Tottenham star Rodrigo Bentancur will recover from an ankle issue to return against Everton next Monday (7 March).

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

Bentancur, a £20million signing from Juventus on January deadline day, sustained the injury against Burnley last Wednesday (23 February).

The Uruguayan midfielder was not included in the matchday squad for the 4-0 demolition of Leeds United last Saturday (26 February).

Manager Antonio Conte told club media yesterday (28 February) that there will be “no Bentancur” for tonight’s FA Cup clash against Middlesbrough.

But Dinnery is confident that the 24-year-old will be available when Spurs resume their Premier League campaign next week.

“I 100 per cent don’t expect him to play in the cup, but it is only a minor blow,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“Spurs don’t play until Monday, so that gives them plenty of time to get him up and running.

“That would tally up with what we’ve heard from Antonio Conte about Rodrigo Bentancur and that little bit of an ankle problem.

“He may rejoin the group in training over the weekend, which would put him in contention for that Monday game.”

Bentancur has played four times since his move from Turin to North London.

His Spurs side are 7th in the Premier League table, five points outside the top four with games in hand on most of the teams above them.
