Tottenham news: Medical guru says Son Heung-Min could miss three matches after training update

Son Heung-min could miss a maximum of three games for Tottenham as he completes his recovery from injury.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Son has not featured since sustaining a hamstring issue in the League Cup semi-final first leg defeat to Chelsea at the start of last month (5 January).

Antonio Conte revealed in his media conference on 21 January that the 29-year-old attacker is progressing “very well”.

The Italian boss’s side are next in action against Brighton in the Fa Cup on Saturday (5 February).

Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas tweeted on Tuesday (1 February) that Son is back in training and in with a shout of playing at the weekend.

Dinnery predicts that the South Korean will return in the next two games if he misses out against Brighton.

“My initial thoughts were that we were looking towards mid-February,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“The Fa Cup provides a great opportunity for players to return. He won’t be too far away. It could be a late call. It’s that close.

“If he doesn’t make it, then the game after or the game after that would be realistic. He could miss three games but unlikely to be more.

“We know that Antonio Conte is a manager who doesn’t take any unnecessary risks.

“He’ll want to make sure he’s in tip-top condition. But he recovers quick. This is the longest time he’s spent on the sidelines with a soft tissue issue.

“He’s had a foot issue, a radius injury and an elbow issue that have kept him out before. But for him, this is new territory.

“Despite the number of games he plays, he doesn’t suffer too many severe muscle problems.

“The priority is going to be the run-in. If he misses a game or two, it isn’t going to be too major in the grand scheme of things.”

Son has registered nine goals and five assists in 25 appearances this term.

Spurs face Watford and Man United in their next two matches after the Brighton clash.
