Medical expert: Oliver Skipp may have ‘serious’ issue after ‘worrying’ Tottenham update

Oliver Skipp may have a “serious underlying” issue that is delaying his return from injury at Tottenham.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Skipp has been sidelined with a groin injury since late January but his return was, until recently, expected to be imminent.

Per the Evening Standard yesterday (10 March) Spurs boss Antonio Conte said he”doesn’t have an answer” on Skipp’s timeline and is “really worried”.

The Italian manager has also called on club doctors to publicly explain the 21-year-old’s setback, as relayed by The Guardian last Friday (4 March).

Dinnery argues that Conte’s rhetoric suggests that the midfielder’s groin issue is more insidious than initially feared.

“Initially, we were only looking at around seven to 10 days,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“But the latest comments show that he isn’t progressing as hoped. There may be something underlying there that is causing this problematic groin pain.

“He was following a similar timeline to Japhet Tanganga, but he has slipped with regards to that timeline now.

“Until you can identify that serious underlying issue, you can’t really progress.

“He’s nearing the final phase of recovery but when he gets there he is having to take a step back because whatever it is is flaring up.

“They’ll be looking to identify the issue and make tweaks to his rehab.”

Skipp, who was called “phenomenal” and a “future Spurs captain” by ex-boss Jose Mourinho, has featured 28 times across all competitions for Spurs this season.

He will miss the clash at Man United tomorrow (12 March).
