Pundit makes 'special players' claim after Tottenham signings bonanza reveal

A few “special” January signings could propel Tottenham to a top-four finish.

So says ex-Premier League manager Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Londoners’ ambitious recruitment plans.

A Tottenham source told this site on Monday (6 December) that Spurs are laying the groundwork for an unprecedented January transfer bonanza.

It is understood that Spurs are planning multiple swoops across various positions, though the priority is to strengthen their defensive garrison.

Several players are also expected to leave the club, including Joe Rodon who Football Insider revealed on 3 December is seeking an exit.

McLeish predicts that a top window could be the ticket for Antonio Conte to bring Champions League football back to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

“If they get one or two special players, they could push for the top four,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“If you go on a long unbeaten run, that’s a probability. But I do believe that the top four will be just too much for them.

“But if the recruitment is different to how it has been in the past few years, they do have a chance. Two or three players can make a hell of a difference.

“In the past, Mourinho said the academy was really good and he was going to promote players.

But that gave me the feeling that he wasn’t going to have any money to spend.

“Spurs haven’t spent big money for a long time and perhaps this is their moment.

Spurs are currently embroiled in a Covid crisis with several members of their squad and non-playing staff suffering from the virus.

Their clash against Brighton, which was due to be played today (12 December), was called off due to the outbreak.
