Tottenham tipped to accept Harry Winks bid after £25m update – pundit

Noel Whelan has tipped Tottenham to accept an offer of between £15-20million for Harry Winks during the summer transfer window.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, expects the 26-year-old to fall further down the pecking order in north London this summer.

As reported by the Daily Mail (26 May), Spurs are open to selling the midfielder during the off-season and have set a £25million asking price on his head.

Newcastle and Southampton are reportedly among the clubs in the hunt to sign Winks.

However, Whelan suggested Tottenham may have to drop their demands by as much as £10million to strike a deal.

“I would have thought between £15-20million, not £20-25million,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“He’s a very good player, there’s no doubt about that, but he hasn’t really contributed too much to the season.

“I think Conte prefers Oliver Skipp before Harry Winks. That pushes him even further down the pecking order. The fact I believe they’re going to bring in another midfielder as well, you’re even further down.

“If somebody comes in between the £15-20million mark, that would be a reasonable offer to accept for a player like Harry Winks. I think £20-25million might turn some clubs away.”

Winks played 30 times for Tottenham across all competitions during the 2021/22 campaign.

However, he only made 12 starts, eight in the Premier League, under Conte.

The Italian manager also has the likes of Skipp, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur to call upon in central midfield.

Winks has played a total of 203 times for Tottenham to date.
