Tottenham tipped to axe Joe Rodon after source’s £4m reveal – pundit

Noel Whelan has tipped Joe Rodon to leave Tottenham this summer if they bring in Clement Lenglet from Barcelona.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League striker insisted it is important that Rodon plays regular football ahead of Wales’ World Cup campaign.

A Spurs source told Football Insider on Thursday (30 June) that they have reached an agreement with Barcelona to bring Lenglet, 27, in on a loan deal and will pay a £4million fee.

Football Insider reported earlier this year (22 April) that Tottenham have told Rodon he is free to find a new club this summer and they will listen to offers for him.

The 24-year-old did not play a single Premier League minute under Antonio Conte when he took over from Nuno Espirito Santo last November (2021).

Asked whether the arrival of Lenglet could accelerate Rodon’s exit, Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Yes, that’s a possibility.

“He didn’t get much game time under Conte and they are looking to go out there and strengthen in that area which usually means he is not that keen on Rodon.

“But Rodon very much needs to play football because he’s got the World Cup coming up.

“This is an opportunity where something could work for both player and club, whether it’s a loan move for a full season with a view to a permanent move or he gets that permanent move straight away.

“If I was Rodon now and I saw the club going out there to get another centre-half with me not getting much game time last season, I think the writing is on the wall.”

In other news, Tottenham are only £1million from agreeing a fee for a big-money signing after new talks.
