Tottenham tipped to land ‘big’ Dele Alli windfall after £40m Everton update – pundit

Alan Hutton has insisted Tottenham negotiated a good deal in selling Dele Alli to Everton on deadline day.

The former Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Lilywhites would be rewarded if the 25-year-old rediscovers his “world-class” form at Goodison Park.

As reported by Sky Sports on Tuesday (1 February), Everton have signed Alli for a deal that could rise to £40million in add-ons and bonuses.

The Telegraph’s Matt Law claims Alli has joined on an initial free transfer and will pay £10million after 20 appearances.

Hutton admitted the terms of the deal seem “strange”.

However, he insisted it could result in a major windfall for Spurs.

Discussing the terms of the deal, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think that’s where he’s at at the moment. The incentives are big because we know we can be a world-class player in his own right.

“If he does hit those levels, and I think he will, he and Tottenham will get paid for that. Going on a free, playing 20 games and getting the money at the end of it is a little bit strange.

“But we don’t know what has happened in the background. That’s not me saying that he’s a bad egg or anything like that. Maybe Dele Alli was pushing for this deal.

“Knowing Conte didn’t fancy him, you’re going to have another player within your squad who’s just upset and unhappy. He doesn’t want to be there.

“I think for Tottenham to move on and for Dele Alli to move on, it’s better that they just part company. I think it will work out better, doing it this way, than having a disgruntled player within your squad.”

Alli only played 10 times in the Premier League this season before joining Everton.

He could make his debut in the Toffees’ visit to Newcastle United.
