Tottenham tipped to sign 'world-class' Dier replacement after 'perfect' source reveal - pundit
Paul Robinson has insisted Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij would be the “absolutely perfect” January signing for Tottenham.
The former Spurs goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Antonio Conte needs “world-class” centre-backs to play alongside Cristian Romero.
A source with knowledge of De Vrij’s situation has told Football Insider (15th November) the defender is aware of Spurs’ interest and is keen to discuss a potential move.
The 29-year-old has spoken to English friends about living in London and playing for Tottenham.
A move to Spurs would see De Vrij, who is valued at around £40million, reunite with Conte.
The Netherlands star played 88 times under the Italian at Inter.

Robinson insisted Conte needs to strengthen at the back to play his preferred three-defender system.
He suggested De Vrij could replace Eric Dier at the heart of the defence.
Robinson told Football Insider’s Dylan Childs: “He’s going to play a back three. If you sign a centre-half that’s used to playing in a back three, you’re winning already.
“De Vrij is somebody who worked with the manager last season and had success with him. He’s obviously somebody the manager likes and the manager wants.
“Centre-half is an area where Spurs need to strengthen. Romero, for me, is the only world-class centre-half that they’ve got. If they’re going to play three at the back, they need three of them.
“Eric Dier has played there, he has played Davies and Sanchez there. Ben Davies is, for me, better at full-back. There, or higher up the field in a wing-back position.
“They need two more in that area if he’s going to play three at the back. Tanganga can play as a centre-half as well, as one of three, but I think he’s possibly better employed as a wing-back.
“He’s got Emerson Royal, Reguilon, Davies, Davies – wing-back, he’s got plenty of cover. You look at the back three, you’re playing wing-backs or full-backs as centre-halves.
“Dier, for me, is not a world-class centre-half. Romero needs players alongside him. De Vrij is world class and would be an absolutely perfect fit.”
