Tottenham tipped to submit last-minute Traore bid after source update today

Noel Whelan has tipped Tottenham to submit a last-minute Adama Traore bid after initially being knocked back by Wolves.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Spurs let someone leave on loan to make room in the squad for the 25-year-old.

A Tottenham source told Football Insider today the club are readying a new Traore bid after Wolves rejected their initial loan-to-buy offer.

The transfer window shuts on Tuesday (31st August).

Traore still has two years left on his contract at Molineux.

Whelan admitted he thought Spurs would return with a fresh bid for the Wolves speedster.

However, he suggested someone could leave north London, possibly on loan, to free up room in the squad and on the wage bill.

Asked if he thought Tottenham would return with a cash bid, Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Yeah, I think so.

“Obviously, Tottenham, with their predicament with players that want out of the football club, they’d much prefer to have the money in the bank and the space to bring him straight in.

“Right now, they’re going to have to keep players and spend money and then, hopefully, get a player out on loan which is going to lower the wage bill to allow this to be a little bit more feasible.

“If Tottenham have got aspirations, if they’re going to keep Harry Kane, they’re going to show him they’re going to go for it and improve the squad.

“They’ve got to show that commitment. If they do bring him in, they really could be contenders this year to break into that top four.

“Is it a step forward for Tottenham? Absolutely. Is it progression for Tottenham in terms of squad and quality? Absolutely.”
