Tottenham to ‘cancel Timo Werner loan after Rangers’ – fans ‘shocked’
Tottenham have been told to cancel the loan deal of Timo Werner following his performance against Rangers as fans reacted to the Europa League draw.
Werner originally joined the North London club in January on short-term loan deal from RB Leipzig, but following two goals in 14 appearances, his loan deal was extended this summer with an option to buy for £8.5million [BBC Sport].
However, the German international has yet to score in the Premier League this season. He has just one goal in 18 appearances, coming in the League Cup vs Man City.
As the Lilywhites drew 1-1 at Rangers, many fans have criticised his showing, after he was hooked at half-time due to his “honking” performance.
Tottenham are yet to see Timo Werner shine under Ange Postecoglou
Football Insider opinion
Ange Postecoglou’s escaped with a draw on his return to old rivals Rangers at the Ibrox on Thursday (12 December) as Dejan Kulusevski’s cool finish brought them back from a goal down.
The Australian doesn’t seem to be under immediate sack threat as he has already had conversations regarding the January transfer window, but another game without a win won’t help.
Werner, 28, wasn’t on the pitch for long but endured another outing that had fans calling for the former Chelsea man to be sent back to his parent club immediately.

His dismal first-half display saw many fans calling Tottenham to “terminate his loan” amid “shock” at his ability.
Celtic fans also joined in on social media, supporting their former manager against their bitter rivals. However, they too were frustrated by Werner’s performance. Some claimed they would reject him even “if Werner was offered on a free”.
In other news, James Maddison is yet to prove himself to Postecoglou.
