Kieran Maguire: Tottenham could now stage emergency talks after Uefa warning

Tottenham could hold talks with Uefa to ensure that their naming rights issues do not derail the UK and Ireland’s Euro 2028 bid.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Spurs’ ongoing hunt for a commercial partner for their state-of-the-art stadium.

The arena is one of 14 venues selected to host matches at the 2028 Euros, which are expected to be awarded to the UK and Ireland imminently.

However, The Times reported on Wednesday (21 December) that Uefa have warned the bid team that only unbranded stadiums can stage Euros games.

That is likely to be an issue for Spurs, who have been seeking a naming rights partner since they opened their stadium back in 2019.

But Maguire predicts that the North Londoners will come to some form of arrangement with European football’s governing body.

Everything can be negotiated in business,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“The warning from UEFA won’t necessarily put them off granting the 2028 championship to the UK and Ireland.

“I suspect the events at Wembley last summer were a contributory factor to some of UEFA’s reticence, however.

As always with these affairs, if you get people around the table, there is no reason why these things can’t be resolved.

I don’t think there will be any problem with Spurs getting naming rights. The biggest problem is that there could be two North London stadiums in the bid given that Wembley is part of the deal.
