Sources: Tottenham to make record-breaking announcement before Christmas

Tottenham intend to announce a stadium naming rights deal before Christmas, sources have told Football Insider.

Google and Amazon are both in the running to secure a 10-year-plus agreement which is likely to be worth up to £25million per season.

The North Londoners have been without a title sponsor since the 62,850-seater arena opened in April 2019 but are now confident they are approaching the end game in negotiations.

An announcement ahead of the festive period would particularly suit Amazon, whose flagship streaming product is the full complement of Premier League Boxing Day fixtures.

It would also fit in with the retail giants’ commercial strategy as they gear up for what are by far their busiest months of the year.

Amazon also have pre-existing links with Spurs, who starred in their All or Nothing documentary series in 2020.

But Google, as reported by The Athletic last Monday (18 October), remain firmly in the mix as Daniel Levy and commercial director Todd Kline attempt to force through what will be an English-record agreement.

Two sources with knowledge of the talks have told Football Insider that Spurs, who are currently 1st in Group D, want a deal in place well in advance of the Champions League knockout rounds.

The logistical operation, including displaying the chosen sponsor’s branding at the stadium and implementing any technology tie-in, will be easier this year than most with the stadium not in use during the winter World Cup.

While the schedule has not yet been announced, NFL games will also return to stadium in 2023.

Spurs are currently seeking upgrades to the retractable pitch that cost them upwards of £20m just three and a half years ago.
