Tottenham to open ‘surprise’ Giovani Lo Celso talks – sources

Tottenham are planning to hold “surprise” talks with Giovani Lo Celso over a contract extension, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Spurs could be trying to protect their assets by giving the attacker another year or two to secure his future.

The 28-year-old has made just 21 appearances in all competitions under Ange Postecoglou this season.

Sources told Football Insider last month that Spurs are expected to receive multiple offers for Lo Celso going into the summer transfer window.

Tottenham man set for new contract talks

O’Rourke told Football Insider that the new talks come as a surprise, with the attacker not playing enough minutes under Postecoglou.

He added that Lo Celso, who spent 18 months on loan at Villarreal during his Spurs career, will ultimately have the final say on his future.

The attacker can either stay in England and be a squad player under Postecoglou, or move on this summer and play regular football elsewhere.

The Argentine international, who has 50 caps for his country, has one year remaining on his current deal in North London.

Lo Celso has scored two goals this season, with the strikes coming in back-to-back games against Aston Villa and Man City towards the end of 2023.

O’Rourke also revealed that there will be interest in the Argentine this summer, with Spanish giants Barcelona having been linked with Lo Celso in the past.
