‘Tottenham to sack Ange Postecoglou immediately after emotional U-turn’

Ange Postecoglou’s future as Tottenham boss hangs in the balance despite him lifting the Europa League after beating Man United last week (21 May).

The 59-year-old has made no secret of the fact that he would like to remain at Spurs but a final decision is expected to be made by chairman Daniel Levy.

Postecoglou still has more than 12 months to run on his contract with the Lilywhites.

The Australian will go down in Tottenham history after ending their 17-year trophy drought and winning their first European honours since 1984.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has had his say on an “emotional” U-turn from players and fans alike towards Postecoglou following a difficult 2024-25 campaign, which saw him often criticised.

‘I’ve decided Postecoglou will go’, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has claimed he expects Levy to replace Postecoglou in the Tottenham dugout.

Spurs may have seen success in Europe but finished 17th in the Premier League and just 13 points from the relegation zone, after losing 22 of 38 top-flight games.

Wyness claimed it will be a “tight decision” with players and fans expressing their support for Postecoglou after the “emotional” scenes in Bilbao and the subsequent celebrations.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I’ve gone backwards and forwards on this, but in the end – I’ve decided that he will go.

“I think they’ll look over the season, rather than just the easier European games.

“The thing that will do it for him is the inflexibility over the tactical changes. There were certain games that he could have got results out of, that he didn’t – because he was inflexible.

“The players he had due to injuries meant he should have played a more conservative system.

“I think that’s the conclusion Daniel Levy will come to, when he looks at it.

“However, it’s going to be a tight decision. There’s been a big emotional push towards Ange now, and he’s handled it very well since winning.”

Tottenham coach opens West Brom talks

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (24 May) that Tottenham coach Ryan Mason has opened talks to become the new West Brom manager.

Mason is now in pole position to be the new boss of the Championship outfit, who missed out on promotion after finishing ninth in the recently-completed campaign.

He is currently part of Postecoglou’s staff and has previously worked under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte at Spurs, as well as stepping up to the interim manager role at the club.
