Tottenham told to ‘build team around’ Romero ‘for next 10 years’ after what expert’s just seen

Tottenham star Cristian Romero is just like Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld and he reads the game like Ledley King.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Romero, 23, turned in an excellent performance as Tottenham beat Newcastle 5-1 on Sunday (2 April).

Wenham is delighted with Romero’s progress this season and predicted he will be one of the Premier League’s best defenders next season.

“Romero was outstanding, for me, he’s already on the same level as what we had with a prime Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I think he’s the closest we have had to Ledley King in terms of his impact.

“He is strong in the tackle and he reads issues before they happen.

“He’s proactive rather than reactive and that’s something we have missed for a long time.

“Romero is only 23-years-old and he’s only going to get better the more he settled into English football.

“He also has huge standing in the game having won the Copa America and winning the defender of the year award in last season’s Serie A.

“I honestly think he’s going to be one of the best defenders in the Premier League next season, I’m so impressed with him.

“He has the looks of a Roberto Ayala or a Walter Samuel, a top-tier Argentinan defender.

“I want us to build around him for the next five to 10 years. I’m really, really excited about this guy.”
