Kieran Maguire tells Tottenham fans to expect ‘big’ signings amid £458m reveal
Tottenham have spent £458million on new signings in the last five years alone and can expect to see more “big” arrivals this summer.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Spurs’ spending power ahead of the transfer window.
Spurs booked their place in the lucrative 2022-23 Champions League group stage with a 5-0 procession against Norwich City on the final day last Sunday (22 May).
And in a statement to supporters the previous Sunday (15 May), chairman and co-owner Daniel Levy pledged further investment in the summer.
Maguire claims that Spurs have consistently pushed the boat out in the transfer market and will continue to do so in the coming months.
“I think people have been a bit harsh with regards to Spurs in terms of their spending,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“If we look at the last five years of accounts, in three of them they have spent more than £100m. They have spent £458m across those seasons, which averages out at more than £90m per season. That is significant.
“Granted, they have not always been successful on the pitch.
“But sometimes fans and commentators forget that just because you’ve made a big signing for £60m who has failed to produce, he is still there clocking up a big wage bill.
“But I think you can safely assume that they aren’t going to slow down here.”

Spurs spent just under £90m on Bryan Gil, Emerson Royal, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Sarr in 2021-22.
Dejan Kulusevski and Cristian Romero are expected to make their loan deals permanent this summer.
