Tottenham told to ignore ‘idiots’ and sign Ivan Perisic after update – expert

Tottenham must back Antonio Conte if he wants to bring Ivan Perisic to N17 this summer.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On Friday (20 May) ESPN reported Tottenham are exploring the possibility of signing Perisic on a free transfer.

While it is claimed Inter Milan are trying to agree a new deal with the 33-year-old, the report claims he would be open to reuniting with Antonio Conte.

Perisic and Conte won the 2020-21 Serie A title together.

Wenham dismissed any concerns over the attacker’s age and told the club to sanction the deal if Conte wants it.

“I saw some reports this week about Ivan Perisic,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“All day, yes please. I have heard a lot of ‘he’s too old’. That’s from the same idiots who told me Thiago Silva was too old before he joined Chelsea.

“I’m sorry, sometimes you need those experienced players. I know people like the idea of having a young, hungry squad but you need a bit of both.

“If Conte has said he wants Perisic, then get Perisic, it’s that simple.”

Perisic scored 10 goals and chipped in with nine assists in 49 total outings during the 2021-22 season.

He has made 254 total appearances for Inter Milan and also spent the 2019-20 season on loan at Bayern Munich.
