Tottenham told to make imminent manager appointment after source’s Ryan Mason reveal – pundit
Frank McAvennie has claimed Tottenham need to appoint a new manager before the end of the season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said they must bring in a new boss who can “get rid of all the dead wood” before the start of next season.
Spurs sacked caretaker manager Cristian Stellini last week after a 6-1 hammering to top four contenders Newcastle United.
Stellini was appointed interim manager after Antonio Conte was relieved of his duties earlier this month following an explosive press conference where he slated the attitude of the club and the players.
Ryan Mason was in charge for Thursday’s 2-2 draw with Man United and is set to be at the helm for the remainder of the season.
On Saturday (29 April), Football Insider revealed that Mason will shoot up the pecking order of managerial candidates if he oversees an improvement in the final weeks of the season.
The 31-year-old has not been mentioned seriously as a potential permanent boss but the Spurs hierarchy are not ruling him out of the running if he makes a strong impression in the last month of the season.
McAvennie insisted Tottenham shouldn’t wait until the summer to make the appointment.
“They have got to get a manger in now so they can look at that and get rid of all the dead wood,” he told Football Insider.

“[Eric] Dier is not a centre-half and he got found out last weekend.
“I am not having a go at him, he is a better midfield player than centre-half. To not get a game in midfield with that shambles, there is something not right with him.“
In other news, Antonio Conte wanted Tottenham to get rid of three British first teamers this summer.
