Tottenham told to match Man United and land mega-money deal
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Tottenham must follow Man United by taking advantage of their strong South Korean fanbase to supercharge revenue.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted United and the Glazer Family have set an example to other Premier League clubs of how to maximise sponsorship opportunities overseas.
Son Heung-min’s long-term stint at Tottenham has fostered strong ties with South Korean football fans, with the club’s official supporter’s group in the country boasting 28,000 members.
Spurs toured the country in pre-season preparations ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
As per Statista, Man City (£718million) and Man United (£650million) lead the Premier League for commercial revenue in the 2022-23 campaign – with Tottenham sitting in fourth with £549million.
Wyness tells Tottenham to maximise South Korea links
Wyness insisted Spurs must get more aggressive in South Korea and elsewhere to keep up with the more successful English clubs.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The base Tottenham have got to operate from, and what clubs haven’t been good at, is getting a database of their fans.
“Using Son and South Korea as an example, they’ve got to be more active at getting a database of fans in that area.
“Only then can you get the maximum value through sponsors.
“The Glazers at Man United were very good at this. They were able to sell regional sponsorships.

“That’s where the chance is to increase revenue streams. If you can replicate that and do it in 10 or 20 regions around the world, then you’re starting to motor.
“That’s where clubs have got to go and that’s where technology has got to take them.”
